I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration. I have over 35 years of tax experience. I spent over 29 years with the California Franchise Tax Board (California income tax department) as an auditor and as an audit administrator. I trained tax auditors on tax laws and audit procedures. I developed audit selection models to select tax returns for audits. I retired from the California Franchise Tax Board in 2001.
In 2001, San Francisco State University hired me as one of its accounting faculty, and I taught accounting. In 2008, I took a leave of absence from my teaching to focus on taxes and writing.
In 2004, I was admitted to practice before the U.S. Treasury Internal Revenue Service (IRS). I am a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and a member of the California Society of Enrolled Agents (CSEA). Currently, I am on the board of directors of CSEA, Golden Gate Chapter.
In 2005, I joined one of the largest tax preparation firms in the country. I was a master tax advisor in the firm. I prepared some of its most complex tax returns, handled audits and tax appeals, and handled tax collection problems.
